We are currently looking at a man by the name of Kim Sae-byul who offers one of the most unique cleaning services in all of Korea. As stated in the article:
“His company, named “Bio Hazzard,” offers cleaning services after murders, suicides and unattended deaths in private homes. He is also often contacted by South Korean hoarders, who have inability to discard large quantities of objects – including food garbage and animal feces – that literally overwhelm the living areas of their properties.”
The clean up service can clean out some of the loneliest places in Korea and while this may be an unusual line of work, it is one that is very important for helping people when they can no longer help themselves. He has often come across hoarders who have died and not been discovered for days or weeks after their death.
Some of his cases have been very sad affairs due to the nature in which people were found or the conditions that they were living in. Some examples of his cases are:
- A 70-year-old man who had become a hoarder and was not discovered until weeks after his death.
- A 90-year-old woman who lived alone with more than 100 tonnes of rubbish and broken furniture in a mouse infested home.
- A 21-year-old compulsive hoarder who suffered from social isolation due to her parents abandoning her when she was 3 years old.
- A 30-year-old delivery man who lived alone and eventually committed suicide due to severe work related stress.
